Along the Crystal River

"Along The Crystal River" Marble, CO 30X40 Oil AVAILABLE

This is one of the largest paintings that I’ve done. I took the picture this Fall by Marble, CO at the base of McClure Pass, just before the leaves peaked in their color change. When I got it back in to the studio, I really liked the composition. Before I painted this painting, I did a smaller color study to alongthecrystalthmbmake sure that all of the elements that I wanted to accentuate worked.  The color study turned out so nice, that I decided to frame it up as well.

I love depicting the difference in reflectivity in moving water. In these paintings, you’ll notice that where the water is less “nervous,” the reflectivity is greater. The Crystal River is one of the nicest looking rivers in Colorado, flanked beautifully by various deciduous trees as it meanders toward it’s eventual confluence with the Roaring Fork, and then ultimately with the Colorado River.
