Zion National Park Plein Air Invitational 2011

In the Footsteps of Thomas Moran, Zion National Park’s Plein Air Invitational is growing and becoming one of the premier events in the Desert Southwest. Taking place in Zion National Park, the paintability of the area is second to none. The event is very well organized by a team of people working for the Zion National Park Foundation, the Park itself, and the event visionary, Anne Weiler-Brown. The Event raises funds the help the Zion National Park Foundation which has a mission to conserve natural resources and educate people about the park and it’s assets. A worthy cause especially after seeing photos of kids from local communities coming to the park on field trips and being helped and inspired by handouts and educators funded by the event! So GO Anne!!
This event does a particularly good job at getting the artists together to meet and hang out. I’ve found that at a few of the events the group of artists hardly has a chance to get to know each other. One of the primary reasons to do the plein air invitational circuit, or really events in general is to meet peers and establish relationships in the painting community.

Thank you everyone who attended and helped by supporting the event! And a big thank you to Anne and company for creating a phenomenal thing! Thanks to Jock Whitworth, the highly supportive superintendent of the Park, and all of the Park officials that helped make the event special.

Here is the entire body of work from the event:

Josh, you are so inspiring! I am a beginner, but maybe in a year or two I will be good enough to really gain from one of your workshops. Your work is spectacular, I am always drawn in and want to see more.
    Happy painting!
